French born Alexandre Manbre' established his sugar business at Spitalfields, London in 1885 and later moved to Hammersmith.In 1926 Manbre' acquired Garton & Sons Co. of Battersea forming Manbre' & Garton. The company specialises in sugars and glucose for breweries and confectionary companies.In 1930 they pioneered the transport of bulk liquid sugars. They acquired Sankey Sugars in 1935 followed by Martineaux Sugar in 1961. From 1963 they reverted to Manbre' Sugars Ltd and Fowlers Treacle was acquired in 1976 in the same year the company was absorbed into Tate & Lyle.
